Spring Into Action

This is what I love about May: Gardening! 🌱

Spring is definitely here, and if you haven’t done any garden work at home, now is the time! Here are the top tips to transform your simple garden into a neighborhood attraction!

Start by cleaning up the garden. Remove any debris, leaves, and weeds that accumulated over the winter. This will help create a clean slate for your garden and prevent pests and diseases from spreading. Next, prune trees and shrubs. Prune any trees and shrubs that need it before the spring growth begins. This will help promote healthy growth and prevent overcrowding.

Plan your layout. Decide on the layout of your garden, including the placement of different plants, hardscaping, and lighting elements. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your garden. Add some unique elements to your garden like a water feature, a trellis, a birdhouse or bird feeder, a garden bench or a statues to make it more interesting and beautiful.

The next thing you’ll want to do is apply a layer of mulch to your garden beds to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and add organic matter to the soil. You’ll want to plant early-blooming bulbs. Plant bulbs such as tulips, daffodils, and crocuses in the fall or early spring to ensure a colorful display in the spring.

Prepare for pests and diseases. Be aware of common pests and diseases that can affect your plants and take steps to prevent them, such as using pesticides and plant-based repellents.

Lastly, keep it maintainable. Think about the maintenance you are willing to do and choose plants accordingly. It’s better to start small and add more plants as you get comfortable with the maintenance.
